  • The parent grape, Frontenac, was introduced by the University of Minnesota in 1996. Frontenac Blanc is an extension to the Frontenac Family - more directly of Frontenac Gris. It was first documented in Quebec in 2005. It is cool hardy, produces loose clusters of varying degrees of darkened golden shades and requires harvest at the right time to mediate bitterness. The grape clusters are generally large and loose with the cane wood quite dense.

Extensive trimming and training is require to allow sun to ripen clusters or millerandage may occur.

In the South Block, the Frontenac Blanc is situated with 825 Plants in 11 Rows that were planted in 2017. This

Cool Climate Plant enjoys the extended periods of sun the back block receives late in the day. Rows 1-3 are exposed to morning sun resulting in more foliage growth and early bud break. Walking from Row 11 of Frontenac to Row 12 of La Crescent, you can see the change in foliage and cane colour as Frontenac has lighter green leaves and duller brown canes.
