Our La Crescent (11 Rows planted in 2018) from the middle of the South Block -West Vineyard are of by the way of the University of Minnesota Cold Hardy Grape Breeding Program. Released as a Varietal to growers in 2002, it is seeing great success in Colder Growing Regions – much like ours in the Central portion of Huron Shores. Another variety with a stocky and sometimes rigid shoot canopy, this plant produces clusters of golden, yellow and off-green berries when happy. Those clusters range from medium length, loose to medium density, very low to low weight and can even develop only a small number of berries. Harvest was very fruitful for 2022. The La Crescent actually yielded the 2nd Highest Tonnage for us behind the Frontenac Blanc. Through fermentation, the La Crescent aromatics were a constant reminder of great things to come. The peach notes showed early and they never faded or dulled. After cold crashing in Jan/Feb, the colour and some sharper acids did recede a touch but the complexity of the wine only increased.
