Unveiling the Rich Heritage of Hessenland
Continuing a Legacy: The Ihrig Family's Journey
In the heart of Hessenland Inn lies a tapestry woven with two captivating narratives, each adding depth to its storied past. The first chapter harks back to the late 19th century when the land was owned by the pioneering Bedard Family, early settlers in the area. The original Bedard farmhouse, a testament to their legacy, still stands proudly today, seamlessly integrated into the main structure of the inn. In 1998, the barn on the property underwent a transformation, its timeworn facade meticulously restored to birth The Coach House, now renowned as one of the region's most distinctive reception venues, exuding rustic charm with an elegant touch.
The second tale unfurls across the seas, originating in Germany's Hessen province over three decades ago, with Ernst and Christa Ihrig at its helm. Their dream to transplant their passion for hospitality and love for horse breeding to Canadian soil found fruition in Hessenland, a haven where sprawling gardens, inviting dining spaces, luxurious accommodations, five acres of vineyards, and the iconic Coach House converge in harmony.
Today, the legacy is upheld by the next generation of Ihrigs. Frank, eldest son of Ernst and Christa, alongside his wife Liz, proudly shoulder the responsibility as co-owners, perpetuating the cherished traditions and values that have shaped Hessenland into the cherished retreat it is today.
