Blume Vidal

“Blume,” meaning ‘flower’ in German, is the name given to this Vidal.  Named for Hessenland co-founder and Green Thumb Goddess, Christa Ihrig, this wine celebrates the glorious gardens juxtaposed, and lovingly tended to, alongside Schatz’s vines. This Vidal shows off fresh picked peaches on the nose with notes of apricot and citrus, pretty aromas with hints of white lilies and apple blossom. The palate has nice texture with flavours of ripe tropical fruit, with a clean citrussy finish. Enjoy on the deck, around the pool or garden side.

19-84

‘19-84’ is the second vintage in Schatz Winery’s inaugural collection.  Harvested in October of 2018, its namesake offers a double take in meaning.  The wine celebrates its release on Hessenland Inn’s 35th anniversary and the founding of the winery in 2019, while paying homage to the Inn’s founding year of 1984.  Crisp and clean with great balance; flavours are quite intense showing ripe yellow skinned apples, ripe pineapple and mango, with a spicy white pepper note on the finish. Great aperitif wine or would pair well with spicy Asian food or a roasted chicken dish.

Generations

“Generations” L’Acadie Blanc is suggestive of Schatz’s essence and Hessenland’s journey – it is the story of family, community and heritage infused into every vine and vintage. Hessenland’s second generation owner-innkeepers, Frank and Liz, carry forward the traditions of their parents while working with their neighbours and innovating along the way.  Schatz Winery is a milestone chapter in this evolving story.  A wine with aromas of green melon, golden delicious apple, and floral notes of honeysuckle and fresh cut hay. The palate is nicely balanced with ripe tropical fruits, green spice and a fresh grapefruit note on the finish. Would pair perfectly with white fish, scallops, and creamy pasta dishes.

Rusty Petite Pearl

Where now there are vines there once were paddocks. Before welcoming grapes, Schatz’s acres were home to a few notable Equestrian characters. No horse was more memorable to our family than Rusty – Ernst’s most beloved and treasured Hanoverian! Well-tempered with a refined gait, jumping prowess and descending from a family of champions, we felt it was only fitting to name our first planted Petite Pearl grape for this gelding. A very dark purple colour with aromas of dried blueberry and cherry with a smoky, spicy note. The palate has rich texture with flavours of dark fruits, anise and beetroot, no tannin but has fresh mouth-watering acidity making this wine a perfect match with game meats
