Vineyard Information: Rows 23-32 Riesling from South Block in the West Vineyard were planted in 2018. There are 600 Plants spaced at about 5′ per plant with a row length of 300′. There is more direct sun here on this block, especially later in the day in the summer months. The first few rows are often pelted with wind as there isn’t any protection – this had developed a rigid and resilient plant. There is also hidden sand deposits within the block that provide some additional challenges with drainage and nutrient retention. Rows 5 – 6 Riesling from East Vineyard were planted in 2015 and these plants were part of the initial planting of the Vineyard. There are 50 Plants spaced at about 5′ per plant and the row length is 125′. Within the 125′, it is fascinating to see the difference in plant size and grape yield from the North to the South. Clearly a Terroir difference within that span but also from South Block. With a Harvest in 2019 of only 0.192 Tonnes, the 2020 is the first official Vintage to be released for our Estate Riesling. The plants are becoming more acquainted with their surroundings and becoming more established. It is known that Rieslings can take upwards of 3years + from planting to producing fruit for wine.
