2021 “Rucksack” Riesling

$20.95

Sight : At first sight, you’ll see the Pale light Golden Straw faintly shimmer with the chrome-metallic hints

Nose : Bright and fresh Lemon and Lime notes with a waft of minerality and slight petrol characters.

Palate : Fresh and welcoming acidity proves to be the vehicle here. A lingering but pleasant dry finish leaning to the dry side in “Off-Dry”. Narrow and deliberate body that stays true to style.

Vineyard Information:

Rows 23-32 Riesling from South Block in the West Vineyard were planted in 2018. There are 600 Plants spaced at about 5′ per plant with a row length of 300′. There is more direct sun here on this block, especially later in the day in the Summer Months. The first few rows are often pelted with wind as there isn’t any protection – this had developed a rigid and resilient plant. There is also hidden pockets of sand deposits within the block that provide some additional challenges with drainage and nutrient retention.

Rows 5 – 6 Riesling from East Vineyard were planted in 2015 and these plants were part of the initial planting of the Vineyard. There are 50 Plants spaced at about 5′ per plant and the row length is 125′. Within the 125′, it is fascinating to see the difference in plant size and grape yield from the North to the South. Clearly a Terroir difference within that span but also from South Block.

The Vertical Shoot Position Trellis for these Vitis Vinifera requires much leaf removal and training of shoots to allow for exposure of clusters to dry out BUT also receive sunlight to ripen.
